THE HADRAMI LINEAGE

MY FAMILY

My Hadrami heritage stems from my great maternal grand parents hailing all the
way from Hadramaut, Yemen namely Syed Ali Bin Syed Abdul Rahman Al-Junied and
Syarifah Rukiah Binte Syed Mohd Al-Aidid. This photo was taken circa 1920 in Singapore.

Syed Ali Al-Junied was an established legal interpreter in the Singapore Court, a Naturopathy
Specialist who also produced his own essential oil. His grandfather married to the grand daughter
of Habib Nuh Bin Muhammad Al-Habshi, widely revered as The Grand Saint of Singapore with his
mausoleum located at Palmer Road since 1866 which has been well preserved until today.

My great maternal grandmother, Syarifah Rukiah Binte Mohd Al-Aidid is another notable Hadrami
family and merchants who have settled in Singapore. Syed Mydin Bin Syed Mustafa Al-Aidid
was one of the earliest Hadrami who arrived in Singapore in the second half of 14th century.
He has been laid to rest in the country in the year 1419.
